What is SoSy

Software Systems is an applied discipline within the field of computing science that focuses on the development of reliable high-quality software solutions for public and private industry. Software Systems stresses the application of computing science and engineering concepts to the development of large, complex software systems under realistic time and budget constraints.

Software systems are not simply found in applications such as gaming or operating systems that keep our computers running. Software systems are found all around us in the embedded software found in appliances and cell phones, internet search engines, financial analysis software, and online music and movie distribution. Software Systems can also be found in medical imaging software that enables health professionals to visualize a patient’s heart without the need for surgery and in many safety-critical applications such as braking and air traffic control systems.

Indeed, the expansion of technology in almost every facet of life means that there will be a strong and continuing demand for software professionals both locally and internationally.

The professional practice of software systems includes problem solving, project management, ethical and legal issues, written and oral communication, and teamwork. Our graduates will have a strong combination of technical and managerial skills sought after by today’s employers.
