Student Life

SFU is a multicultural campus that welcomes students from diverse cultures so it's not surprising that we have students from all over the world in our school! SFU is a medium-sized campus, which means it has all the facilities you'd expect from a university, but is also small enough to make it easy to meet people and make friends.

We know that our prospective students may have a little or a lot of prior programming experience. Our first year courses make it even easier for students with different skill levels to integrate into our programs. All you need is an interest in technology and a drive to succeed!

Whether you're a high school student, college student, or a professional looking for a career change, we have a fit for you. We particularly encourage women with an interest in the field to join us, as well as all students with no prior computing experience.

Check out our student societies and clubs:

  • Computing Science Student Society (CSSS)
The CSSS provides plenty of support to get you through your courses and to make university fun! Ski trips, weekly movies and pizza, UNIX tutorials, and OP fairs are among the community and career-building activities brought to you by our CSSS. Join your fellow students in the CSSS common room for conversation, cheap pop, or a game of pool.
  • Women in Computing Science Society (WICS)
WICS promotes networking and support among women at all levels in CS with a new-student mentoring program, a speaker series, fun events like bowling nights, group hikes, and more!
