Minimum Prerequisite Grade

The following change to the School of Computing Science calendar entry is proposed.
Current Proposed

Minimum Grade Requirement

Students must obtain a grade of C or higher in their courses, as they normally will not be permitted to enrol in any computing science course for which a C- grade or lower was obtained in any prerequisite. A minimum CGPA of 2.25 is required for entry into upper division computing courses.

Prerequisite Grade Requirement

Registration in any computing science course normally requires that students obtain a C- or better in each prerequisite. A minimum CGPA of 2.25 is required for entry into upper division computing courses.

Rationale

This brings the School's prerequisite grade requirement in line with that more commonly used in other units. In addition, it avoids a trap for students with a C- grade: that they are unable to move on because of the prerequisite requirement and they have low priority to repeat the course because of recent changes to course duplication policy.
