This is a first draft of a new course proposal to consolidate the three 1-credit courses TECH 154, 155 and 156 into a single 3-credit course. It is proposed to be cross-listed and offered under either CMPT 149 or TECH 149 labels. Various elements of this proposal represent initial suggestions based on documentation of the existing courses. Revisions by the the undergraduate curriculum committees of the Program in Information Technology and Interactive Arts and the School of Computing Science are expected.

Course Description
This course provides students with a broad introduction to information technology, focusing on fundamental elements of computer architecture, basic structures for computer communications and networking, and social issues in the development and application of information technology generally.
