1. Revised Lower Division Requirements

The calendar description of the Joint Major in Information Systems in Business Administration and Computing Science under Faculty of Business Administration is proposed to be revised as follows in accord with corresponding revisions to the Computing Science major program.

Rationale

These changes reflect the replacement of the CMPT 101-4, 104-2 and 201-4 by the new courses CMPT 120-3, 125-3, 126-3 and 225-3.

2. Changes to Upper Division Requirements for B.Sc.

The regulations regarding the awarding of a B.Sc. degree in conjunction with the joint major are proposed to change as follows. These regulations are found in the School of Computing Science entry under Faculty of Applied Sciences.

A BSc degree is also available in the joint major with the completion of the following requirements in addition to those listed in the Business Administration section. Three additional courses chosen from tables I, II or III must be completed. These courses must include MACM 316.	The joint major may be granted as a BSc degree with the completion of MACM 316 and a course from tables I, II, or III, in addition to those listed in the Business Administration section for the joint major.

Rationale

This would move the BSc joint major more into line with the general guideline that joint majors typically require approximately 2/3 of the upper division requirements of the standard major programs of the participating units. At present the BUS-CMPT joint major requires at least 24 upper division credits in CMPT for the BBA and 33 for the BSc. The nine credit difference arises unmodified from the standard rule for a BSc major in CMPT, requiring 3 courses including MACM 316 beyond the basic major requirements. However, the resulting 33 credit total is excessive for a joint major. The proposal reduces the total to 30 credits, in essence by applying the 2/3 design guideline to the "3 courses including MACM 316" requirement.
