At the July 8, 2002 meeting of the SFU Senate, the BSc (Information Technology, TechBC) and BSc (Interactive Arts, TechBC) degree programs were approved for students admitted to Tech BC prior to 2002. The intention was to allow existing students to complete the programs which they had begun at Tech BC, while successor programs were developed. In April 2003, these degree programs were subsequently extended for those students admitted to SFU Surrey in 2002.
In May 2003, the SFU Senate approved the creation of a School of Interactive Arts and Technology with the mandate to develop and evolve curriculum associated with the Interactive Arts curriculum acquired from TechBC as well as an information technology concentration in arts and design technology. Major, honors and minor programs of the new School are proposed with FAS UCC Paper 2004-6.
Whereas students admitted to SFU Surrey in 2002 will be entering the third year of the BSc (Information Technology, TechBC) and BSc (Interactive Arts, TechBC) programs in Fall 2004, students admitted in 2003 will have a different set of second year options in Fall 2004: the new programs of the School of Interactive Arts and Technology as well as Surrey program offerings by the School of Computing Science and the Faculty of Busines Administration. Courses used in the curriculum of the BSc (Information Technology, TechBC) and BSc (Interactive Arts, TechBC) degrees are not required for these students.
The last regular offerings of IART, INTD, ITEC and MTEC 200-level courses are scheduled for 2003/4. These courses will be deleted from the 2004/5 calendar. However, a number of them are proposed to be replaced by new semester-based courses of the School of Interactive Arts and Technology. Others will simply be deleted, relying on existing BUS, CMPT and ENSC courses to cover these areas.
The table below lists all IART, INTD, ITEC and MTEC 200-level courses and their proposed replacements.

Although all IART, INTD, ITEC and MTEC 2xx-1 courses are to be deleted from the 2004/5 calendar, it is anticipated that exceptional circumstances may require additional offerings in some cases during 2004/5. It is therefore proposed that such offerings be permitted in 2004/5 subject to the approval of the Dean of Applied Sciences.
