Rationale

Although the social sciences/humanities/ fine and performing arts requirement within Computing Science admission requirements has been effective in emphasizing communication skills and breadth, it is unusual for science-oriented programs. About 15-20% of applicants have failed to prepare themselves for this requirement, while otherwise meeting general admission requirements for the Faculty of Science. The waiver based on English 12 performance is a reasonable way to broaden the applicant pool, while retaining the emphasis on communication skills and breadth.

The footnote with respect to advanced math courses had previously been approved but seems to have been inadvertently dropped.

These changes do not add any new requirements that would disqualify any applicant and are thus proposed to be effective immediately.
