The School of Communication and the School for Contemporary Arts are proposing a joint major with the following calendar description. This is a substantial reworking of an earlier proposal published as FAS UCC Paper 2002-13A. As with our other joint majors, the main description would occur in the Contemporary Arts section of the Calendar, with a reference to it in the CMNS section.
The following proposed calendar text reflects program requirements.
This interdisciplinary joint major is designed to enable a student to investigate the natural links between the contemporary arts-particularly the media arts-and communication, a social science dedicated to examining the contexts within which information is created, coded, communicated and controlled. We expect that students will find much to explore in the interrelated scholarly and studio practices associated with media arts, art and culture studies, the fine and performing arts, public policy formation, research and policy development, the study of communications technologies and the communications industries. Students are encouraged to plan their program in consultation with advisors in each department.
