TechOne Revisions: 2005/6 Calendar

Introduction and Rationale
A Certificate in Collaborative Technologies is proposed which would be awarded to students who successfully complete 30 credit hours of coursework in the TechOne program within a twelve month period. This certificate is available to all students enrolled in courses in the TechOne program, whether or not they plan on completing a four year degree program. We expect that a Certificate program associated with completion of the TechOne program will encourage students to remain in the TechOne program for two semesters as well as encouraging students who do not wish to complete a bachelor’s degree to enroll at Simon Fraser University.
Proposed Calendar Description – TechOne Program
Certificate in Collaborative Technologies
The Certificate in Collaborative Technologies provides students with broad exposure to the disciplines of interactive arts and information technology, as well as the areas of knowledge and methods of inquiry that are essential to these disciplines. In completing this Certificate students will learn the value of interdisciplinary, collaborative learning as it models and relates to the contemporary workforce. This Certificate may be taken in conjunction with a degree program, or by students who are not seeking a degree.
Credits applied toward the Certificate in Collaborative Technologies may not be applied toward any other Simon Fraser University certificate or diploma, but may be applied toward a bachelor’s degree under the normal regulations governing those programs. Students apply for the Certificate after completion of the required 30 credit hours of coursework. In order to be eligible for the Certificate students must have completed all 30 credit hours of coursework within a twelve month period.
The Certificate in Collaborative Technologies requires successful completion of ten courses comprising at least 30 credit hours from a designated, approved courses list. This set of courses includes the core of specified courses required for completion of the TechOne program as well as 9 credits of elective coursework. Areas that must be covered in completed coursework include: Teamwork and Communication, Interactive Arts, Information Technology, Quantitative Skills and University Breadth.
