CMNS/DIAL
461-3
Field
Placement in Dialogue
Prerequisites: 75
credits, including CMNS/DIAL 460; and permission of instructor. Overview: The student will work under faculty supervision in
a field placement related to dialogue and negotiation. Arrangements
for both field placement and faculty supervision are the
responsibility of the student, and a mutually satisfactory agreement
must be established between the field placement host and the faculty
supervisor, with provision for regular reports and opportunities for
comment. Agreement must be in place prior to instructor’s
consent. Enrollment depends on the availability of faculty resources
in any semester. The objective of the field placement will be
developed and defined at the beginning of the semester through
consultation. The student will present a written and oral report on
their work (to their supervisor), both in the middle of the term, and
for evaluation at the end. Consultation with the field placement
host will occur on an “as needed” and timely basis. Readings: No specific readings are intended for this field
placement course. It is, in effect an application of the learning in
the CMNS/DIAL 460-4 seminar and previous Dialogue Minor courses. Grading: Students will
meet in advance with their supervisor to determine the grading
scheme to be used, and this scheme must be approved by the CMNS
Undergraduate Chair The School expects that the grades awarded in this
course will bear some reasonable relation to established
university-wide practices with respect to both levels and
distribution of grades. In addition, the school will also follow
Policy T10.02 with respect to “Intellectual Honesty” and
“Academic Discipline” (see the current calendar, General
Regulations Section). Qualified Instructors: Robert Anderson, Robert Hackett, Martin Laba, Gary
McCarron, Catherine Murray, Mark Winston.
