Title: Fundamentals of Teamwork and Communication II


Course Description:

The goal of Fundamentals of Teamwork & Communication II (FTC II) is to build on the basic communication, learning principles and social processes students have developed in their first term at university. Students learn the form and process of academic and professional writing and presentation. Students will collect, critically reflect on and synthesize their work from their first year studies, work experience and volunteer skills to create a professional ePortfolio. Through the development of a cooperative oral presentation, students will continue to develop their teamwork and professional communication skills, including the use of effective peer evaluation techniques, self-assessment strategies and presentation skills.

Title: Communication, Teamwork and Collaborative Process

Course Description:

The goal of Communication, Teamwork and Collaborative Process is to teach students essential skills to enable them to negotiate their first year coursework successfully and provide a strong foundation for the rest of their academic careers. This course teaches the principles, practice and understanding of effective communication, research, critical thinking and teamwork that are needed within both face-to-face and virtual environments. The course’s assignments and activities present a variety of practical learning opportunities for students to practice and develop communication and interpersonal skills, and make that expertise transferable from the classroom to the workplace.


RATIONALE

  1. The course is being updated to reflect its new W status.

  2. The course is integrating elements from the former TECH 100: Foundations of Teamwork and Communication I.

  3. Instead of being a primary topic of the course, the learning portfolio will be integrated into the W exercises to evidence skill development.
