Description Change
From: The goal of this course is to serve as an introduction to the use of computers in everyday life. Concepts underlying the use of multimedia and the Internet are examined, as are its applications in various fields.
To: An introduction to the Internet and the World Wide Web. In this course, we shall examine the structure of the Internet and the World Wide Web as well as design and create web sites.
Rationale: This is intended to simplify the description of the course and make it more readable for non-computing students (who are the audience for the course). This also reflects changes in the course as popular applications of multimedia and the Internet have evolved.
Does this course duplicate the content of a previously approved course to such an extent that students should not receive credit for both courses? If so, please specify.
The current exclusion statement should remain unchanged: "Students who have obtained credit for, or are currently enrolled in a computing science course at the 200 level or higher may not take CMPT 165 for further credit. Students who have taken CMPT 118 may not take CMPT 165 for further credit."
