Rob,

I'm still queasy about the coop requirements for the regular engineering
program. I don't know what supply of coop jobs will be like when the job
market decides to stabilize, but forcing Majors students to do three
coops may be in practice difficult to accomplish. Having sat through
coop interview selections at several different companies, predominant themes
(for engineering related coops) have been 1) GPA and 2) experience.

Majors students with higher GPAs should be able to attain coop
interviews/jobs, but the lower tail of majors students may find this
difficult, and may have to pack their three coop terms into the end of
their degree. I'm sure this issue has already been considered, but I'd
like to reiterate that it should be a concern and an option to allow for
an 'opt out' of coop may be necessary. UVic currently has such an option,
where a coop waiver may be granted to students who take six
non-engineering related courses.

Regards,
Aaron.
