Two significant changes in GPA calculation and GAS/OAP/RTW rules were approved at SCUS yesterday. They will likely be implemented with the new student information system. 1. DE grades. DE grades will be considered a notation that has no effect with respect to GPA calculation. (At present DE grades are equivalent to N for the purposes of GPA calculation. This sometimes results in a drastic lowering of GPA with serious consequences with respect to academic or scholarship standing, even though there may be a good reason for the DE). 2. GAS/OAP/RTW A considerable simplification of the rules were approved, with the elimination of special calculations and rules that apply during the OAP period. In summary, the following transition rules apply at the end of each semester (except when the total SFU credits to date is less than 9). GAS -> GAS, if CGPA >= 2.00 -> OAP, if CGPA < 2.00 OAP -> GAS, if CGPA >= 2.00 -> RTW, if CGPA < 2.00 & SGPA < 2.00 -> OAP, if CGPA < 2.00 & SGPA >= 2.00
